Our people

It’s time we talked was designed and developed by Maree Crabbe and David Corlett. They are co-producers, co-directors, researchers and writers of the project’s broadcast documentary films, Love and Sex in an Age of Pornography, and The Porn Factor. Maree is also author of the project’s secondary school resource, In The Picture: Supporting young people in an era of explicit sexual imagery.

Maree Crabbe: Project Director

Maree has worked with young people – and on issues affecting young people – since 1993. She has developed and delivered programs focusing on sexual violence prevention, sexual diversity, pornography, and prevention of sexually transmissible infections. Maree presents about pornography, its impact on young people, and what we can do about it, at conferences, professional learning workshops and parent events in Australia and around the world. She has been interviewed for radio and television, and published articles on young people, sexuality and pornography in online and print media.

David Corlett: Former Project Director

David has worked for two decades on human rights issues as a caseworker, researcher, author and reporter. He has a PhD in Politics and is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Swinburne Institute for Social Research. He is co-author of Captured Childhood (IDC 2012), and author of Stormy Weather: Climate Change and Displacement (UNSW Press 2008), Following Them Home: The Fate of the Returned Asylum Seekers (Black Inc 2005) and a range of articles in online and print media. In 2011 and 2012, David was the host of the ground-breaking and highly acclaimed documentary series Go Back To Where You Came From (SBS Australia). David is no longer involved in delivery of It’s time we talked, but we are indebted to him for his years of input.

Project management

It’s time we talked was originally auspiced by Brophy Family and Youth Services, but is now delivered independently. Brophy is the primary provider for youth services in south west Victoria, Australia. Brophy originated in 1974, as hostel accommodation for homeless youth. Over the decades, it has developed a comprehensive range of services for the homeless, young people and families.
